With the world technologically advancing, the people must be aware of the many risks technology holds. It is quite recommended that everyone should take extra precaution to becoming a victim to cyber bullying. The internet is open for everyone of all ages and it is up to the individual, and their parents if they are minors, to remember to be digitally safe. However, many people are unaware of the potential risks while online or what precautions to take. Some of the risks of online use are exposure to inappropriate material, physical molestation, legal and financial consequences, harassment, identity thieves, pharming, viruses, adwares and spy wares, and cyber bullying. My group presentation for ED271 includes what is Cyber bullying, the ages that are targeted, and some tips to be aware of the consequences or cyber bullying. (ED271 Group Alpha on Powtoons). Our presentation can be accessed through the following website: https://www.powtoon.com/show/g7Ks7TyYVQa/ed271-cyberbullying/#/
This group project gave us the opportunity to “explore real world issues using digital Media and resources”, we were able to collaborate with each other using digital tools such as Google Docs, Email, and Whatsapp. (ITSE, 2008). Fortunately for me, I was able to research and present all about Cyber Bullying. With this newly acquired knowledge, I will be much obliged to pass this information to my future students and well, actually to anyone willing to know about Cyber Bullying. I not only learned about Cyber Bullying in general, but I sat through presentations of Phishing and Pharming, and etc. Topics that are all very important and very useful in education.
As future educators, the safety of our students should always be taken into consideration. Technology is becoming a big part in today’s education and continues to grow more and more yearly. As an educator, I plan to incorporate technology in my classroom as a part of my teaching styles, but first assuring that my students learn everything they need to know in order to be safe from cyber bullying and how to be digitally safe in general. I will probably give them the same project my group had to do; which is to research all about topics related to digital safety such as Cyber Bullying and have them present it to the class. I feel that this project has greatly helped me learn all about how to be protected from Cyber Bullying attacks, phishing and pharming, etc. I believe my students will get a similar experience. If we all practice online safety and take extra precautions with the technology use, we can all become digitally safe citizens.
